About Kulea Villages

Kulea Childcare Villages was founded in 2009 as a 501 (c) nonprofit in the United States. Subsequently, Non-governmental Organizations (NGO's) or local non-profit organizations were formed in Tanzania and Kenya. Since Kulea Villages began, we have grown in our mission and in our financial management. This year, you are seeing an expanded website with more details about the specific services we provide to support families in Tanzania and Kenya. In 2026, we are also adding a central database to manage our programs and family support for goods, time, and finances in greater detail, creating a solid foundation for continued growth.

Our goals for 2026 are to support more families by attracting more donors. We aim to accomplish this through an improved website, a regular weekly blog about our work and the communities we serve, broader use of social media to engage more donors globally, and expanded local alliances. We also hope to develop a grant process to support expansion into more communities in both Tanzania and Kenya.

Executive Message

Deborah Brown Magaya has lived in Tanzania for the past 7 years, helping build a strong infrastructure to support the vision for Kulea Villages. Her more recent goals have been to ensure we are ready to grow, even if she does retire one day.

Board of Directors

The oversight board of Kulea Villages is currently composed of individuals based in the United States who meet quarterly. The USA Board in 2026 strives to add additional leaders from the European community. Local Boards in Kenya and Tanzania support our community connections and legal and regulatory compliance.

Program Leadership

The Executive Director resides in Tanzania and regularly travels to Kenya. In both Tanzania and Kenya, a Country Director oversees development and day-to-day operations with their team. This oversight has a strong connection with the community in programs, support, and engagement with the Kulea Villages Mission.
