Kulea Villages' Program Services

Babies - Nutrition Support
Babies are at the greatest risk in the first year of life. In Tanzania, through referrals, we support babies in crisis and their caregivers. Kulea Villages’ Maisha Matters program in Dar es Salaam is a partnership with Forever Angels, a UK-based charity providing similar services in Mwanza, Tanzania. In addition to supporting babies with nutritional formula we support caregivers with education.

Education Support - Tanzania
Since Kulea Villages began in 2009, education has been a key program. In Tanzania, public education is free, but only 43% of children from impoverished families complete primary school (grade 7). Support funds assist families with the cost of required uniforms, school supplies, food, and transportation, reducing financial strain and preventing families from choosing between feeding their families and paying school fees.

Education Support - Kenya
Education is essential for helping children escape poverty and creating new possibilities for their future. In Kenya, our work focuses on the Coastal area, where less than 12% of all children complete senior secondary school, and only 1% of impoverished children. In Kenya, education is also free, but uniforms, supplies, food, and sometimes boarding are provided by the family.

Business Startup
When working with a family, our goal is to help them achieve self-sufficiency. Kulea Villages helps the caregiver generate income through starting a business. We define self-sufficiency as three nutritious meals a day, a safe, stable shelter, and keeping children in school.

Social Services
Kulea Villages’ core workforce is social workers. Every day, Kulea Villages social workers address the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual well-being of our caregivers, the majority of whom are single mothers.

Crisis Intervention
Families referred to Kulea Villages are often in desperate need of essential items such as food, mosquito nets, beds, home repairs, rent support, medical, or basic cooking items. We first eliminate the panic and start to build hope for the future.
