Kulea Villages is on a

mission

to equip families in

Kenya

&

Tanzania

with the skills needed to care for orphans and vulnerable children in their communities.

We support children by helping families with:

School Fees & Food. Through Child Sponsorship, we cover school fees until a child's parent or caregiver can. We also support families with food security, depending on their situation and need. Our social workers check frequently on the condition of each child, his/her family, home and the caregiver's small business. Then we customize our support based on specific needs of that child or family. Our goal is to keep children with a family and provide education and food until the family can support themselves.

Preventative Health Training & Medical Care. Through Maisha Matters we provide families with preventative health training (hygiene, disease, first aid & nutrition). In addition our Child Sponsorship or Maisha Matters program provides urgent medical care when needed for Kulea children or babies.

Business Training & Set Ups. Once a baby in our Maisha Matters program is stable and no longer mal-nourished we begin business training for the caregiver. In our Sponsorship program, social workers determine when a caregiver is ready for business training. Upon completion of business training we help the caregiver to set up a small business by an initial investment (for things like charcoal to sell, soap making supplies, etc). Our social workers then check on the business a week later, two weeks later, and so on to be sure the business slowly begins growing.

orphan

[or   phan] noun

We define an orphan as a child who does not have parents to provide food, clothes, shelter, health care, supervision, and school fees. Vulnerable children lack some of the same things due to poor health or the extreme poverty of a single parent or grandparent.

We believe every child has the right to be raised in a loving family, not an institution.

WE ENSURE THAT EVERY DOLLAR IS USED TO SUPPORT FAMILIES TO CARE FOR THEIR OWN CHILDREN AT HOME, BY HELPING WITH SCHOOL FEES, BUSINESS SET UPS AND BY RAISING AWARENESS OF THESE NEEDS.
