PAYING FOR YOUR TRIP
Costs for a Visit Africa trips are all-inclusive. Team members will pay for or raise funds for the total fee which includes: airfare, visa, hotels, ground transportation, meals, team project materials, evacuation insurance, security, and a short safari or other excursion. .
Costs not covered are immunizations, passport & souvenirs. The trip fee varies depending on country, length of trip, cost of airfare, and project plans. Trips cost between $3,750 - $4,050 per participant. Team members will make a deposit to join a team and then proceed with fundraising and personal donations to meet each funding deadline.**
Kulea also provides each team member with information as they prepare for their trip. Team members receive a calendar for team meetings and funding deadlines as well as a support Letter (with guide) to send to family members and friends. The responsibility for funding is the team member's and each funding deadline must be met to maintain a spot on the team. Our trip leaders are available to advise as you fund your trip.
BOOKING YOUR FLIGHT
Kulea will reserve flights and ground transportation for team members. We typically book with Delta or one of its partners for international flights. Routing for teams going to Tanzania is usually USA, Amsterdam, Dar es Salaam. Some teams originate in Boston and fly together but team members living far from Boston, will depart from the international airport closest to them and they will meet the team either in Amsterdam or East Africa. We encourage team members to get a frequent flyer
number to accumulate miles.
Each intercontinental flight is between 7 and 10 hours long, with total travel time being about 19 - 23 hours. Team members may bring a 50 pound bag of clothes and personal items plus a 50 pound "blessing bag" of suggested items to donate for the project. In addition, a backpack to carry on board is allowed. A detailed packing list is provided to team members after joining a team.
Kulea contracts with several excellent companies for ground transportation. They provide on-time, reliable service with safe drivers. In addition, we have a local Kulea tour guide who is with the team from arrival to departure.
"Just cried for a while after listening to the Masai singing to us and looking at all of my precious memories of the children in Africa. I left so much of my heart there...can't sleep. I want to be there right now. I NEVER expected to feel heartbroken. I expected to feel so hopeful that I’d go back again….and I intend to, but it’s not soon enough for me."
SUSAN F. / JULY 2014 / TANZANIA
"Sometimes I wake in the middle of the night with random thoughts...
of Kenya and your faces and laughter
of the children learning their "nombas" with Miss Eunice
of clay huts and pastors that walked for 6 hours to get there
of jaywalking in crazy Nairobi traffic to exchange money
of new unexpected friends like Dieter and Pastor James Gudgeon
of worship in Likoni and hearts full of the love of Christ
of walking along the beach of the Indian Ocean
of monkeys and Germans [at our hotel]
of the innocence of Paul Maliti & the faithfulness of Pastor Dalmas
and, overall God's plan to do His work with good friends & fellowship.
JOHN P. / FEBRUARY 2017 / KENYA
"I was honored and humbled to be surrounded by such loving believers and thoughtful people. While I know I left a mark there, I believe that the people of Manna bible church and the schools that I worked with affected me in a way I haven't been able to put into words yet. I will never forget the people I have met, and hope to return one day to see how they have grown."
BEN S. / JUNE - JULY 2015 / KENYA
"Going on mission together is such a precious and sweet experience and creates a true spiritual bond. I feel so blessed to be part of this team, and will hold each of you close to my heart and in my prayers. And I know our Father is smiling as He listens to our concerts of prayer for our brothers and sisters in Kenya!"
